Massaker von Sabra und Schatila

Als Massaker von Sabra und Schatila (arabisch مذبحة صبرا وشاتيلا, DMG Maḏbaḥat Ṣabrā wa-Šātīlā) wird eine Aktion von etwa 150 libanesischen, maronitisch-katholischen – hauptsächlich phalangistischen – Milizionären bezeichnet, die gegen im südlichen Stadtgebiet von Beirut lebende palästinensische Flüchtlinge gerichtet war. Zwischen dem 16. und 18. September 1982 – mitten im libanesischen Bürgerkrieg – wurden die Flüchtlingslager Sabra (Ṣabrā) und Schatila (Šātīlā) gestürmt, die zu jener Zeit von israelischen Soldaten umstellt waren. Nach filmisch belegten Aussagen beteiligter Milizionäre richtete sich die Aktion in erster Linie gegen Zivilisten; bewaffneter Widerstand soll kaum noch vorhanden gewesen sein. Die Milizionäre verstümmelten, folterten, vergewaltigten und töteten überwiegend Zivilisten, unter ihnen viele Frauen, Kinder und Alte. Die Zahl der Opfer konnte nicht geklärt werden, wird aber je nach Quelle zwischen 460^[1] und 3500^[2] angegeben.
